Guys,

I want to change my trans over to synthetic ATF. I need to get the old ATF out of there. The pan only gets two quarts out and the system holds 8.7 quarts. How do I get it all out? Isn't all the rest of it in the torque converter? Help!

Flush can be bad... What I would do if you are convinced every last bit needs to be changed, is to get two buckets - one filled with many quarts of toyota t-iv atf or Amsoil universal atf (you'll need probably 10 quarts)...

pull a trans cooler line so that the trans sucks in fluid from the bucket, and discharges the old into the other bucket...

 

Exactly-- This trans is a common unit in many Toyota trucks and SUVs like the Tundra and Sequoiah for example-- maybe a different sized pan, but doubt it--

All of the different variations call for a 12qt flush procedure, which will cost you $150 at the dealer, or you can buy the Toyota TIV (only one to use I think) for about $60 ~ ish-- My nearest Toy dealer charges $5 per quart for the stuff.

I'd say just flush it once and do a drain and fill after that every 15k or 30k depending on how much you drain and fill-- but that should keep your trans safe and operating tip-top....

 

Those first four words of Cody's post did it. I have heard before that lament "after the flush in went down hill. Lots of Lex posts say it solved their problem. I don't haver a problem and want it to stay that way. Sooooo! I will go with the 2 quarts of Tot type IV and do the flush when I have a problem starting.
