Anyone with a bad Nakamichi?
Common guy,
Am I the only one here have problem with the Nakamichi?
Has anyone ever got problem with the receiver does not wants to change radio stations, play the CD?
What was wrong with your before you change to after market system?

My Nak works great except for the CD changer. It will skip unpredictably. I'll go over a speed bump and it won't skip, but I run over a painted line in the road and it does. The strangest thing is that it skips more on factory CDs than the ones I burn myself. I may eventually go to an aftermarket MP3 player, but in the short term I think I'll take the advice of some of the other members of this board: have the changer rebuilt or swap it for a rebuilt one. I can tell that the impedance of the amps and speakers are well matched, and I like the look of the factory head unit. I don't want to give either of those things up.
As far as your radio problems go, the buttons on the front of the unit are almost certainly rubber membrane switches. If your car has gotten wet in that area or had a soft drink spilled on the buttons, the switch contacts may be obstructed or corroded. You can clean it thoroughly with an ammonia based window cleaner as long as you let it dry before powering it up.

I have only had a couple problems with my Nakamichi. Sometimes when I am bumping it really loud it crackles out, then I just turn it down and back up and its fine again. Another thing that is broken is the CD light doesn't come on when I have the CDs in the changer... one other thing is sometimes the CD player can't find the spot it left off on the CD-R that I am playing. Other than that thank god I have Nakamichi option, I actually haven't seen any SC400 here in Canada without Nakamichi.

Mine doesn't play at all
Hey y'all,
Don't know if this has been covered elsewhere here (I'm a relative newbie to these forums), but Lexus apparently offers a replacement program for their CD changers -- or at least they do for the '92 SC400s. They'll put in a new unit if you give them the old one. The price is $315 (not including installation) assuming the unit hasn't been beaten up with a baseball bat or the car's been in a wreck or something. This seems like a pretty good deal ... or am I missing something? (i.e. even today's factory changers are still pieces of crap and I should go for a rebuilt unit)
Jeff

Jeff,
At what mileage does Lexus replace the changer at $315? What about the cost for installation? I haven't heard about this replacemant program at all.
Thanks for the head up

At Herrin-Gear Lexus in Jackson, MS they will do it for around $275 according the Shonda Tort a service rep there... It is actually a re-furbished unit(at least that's what I was told..). I think it comes with the 12 month warranty..
