Default Car Died While Driving - Won't Start Again.

I know I know... It's that question help me fix my car over the internet heh. I'm not looking for an answer, just a few suggestions and places to start.

The vehicle I’m working on is a 92 SC400. Here is a quick story about what happen.

I was driving on my way to work minding my own business going around 70mph, the car stopped running and I had to pull over to the side of the road. The electronics work, the car had a ton of power no signs of going bad, I tried to turn it over it cranking but not starting. I popped the hood open and noticed a little bit of black smoke coming from where the diagnostic port is. Then about 20 secs the smoke stopped the car won't start... just cranks and cranks nothing.

Does anyone have any idea? Tomorrow I’m going to test for spark and fuel. Any ideas would be great, not sure if it's a common problem.

Thanks,

Michael

When I bought my 92 SC300, my died on me twice. I found out the hard way that the alternator was busted, so I would suggest checking that out.

Just cleared the codes, and made sure no codes were in the system, tried to start again... Same thing 12 or 21.

I'm going to try to bypass the fuel pump ECU tomorrow, then maybe get a walbro, and see if that helps. A few people on another board are telling me the early sc400 fuel ecu's go bad pretty easy. Also the fuel pump does have 250k on it.

As someone else stated, did you check the fuses? Smoke by the diagnostic port would first make me thing the EFI fuse blew.

Yep, pop off the timing belt cover and look inside. See if it turns when you crank the car.

Sounds like a classic busted belt.
