Hello,

Today I was driving my 92 sc400 to work and the wires by the diagnostic port started to smoke and the car shut off. Now the car will not start, it has oil, coolant everything so it's some kind of electric problem. I'm not sure if i want to fix it or do a motor swap.

I picked up the car for $3500 about a month ago, it's been a good driver, but the motor does have 240k on it.

What are my options? I was looking into the 1JZ swap, but I also found a decent deal for a 2jzge for 650 (Engine, Auto Trans, Wireharness, ECU) Not sure if i should pick that up.

What are you thoughts? I work for a HUGE performance parts company so aftermarket parts are not a problem.

All ideas are welcome.

My first inclination is that you simply blew a fuse. Start there.

Motor swap seems a bit drastic when a little detective work might solve/find your problem.

Also, as far as swaps are concerned, you mention a 1J swap (I can see that), but a 2JZ-GE?? That's the base engine in an SC300. Why would you do that?

 

We build an NA-T kit that is pretty decent. So i could go that route. I'm having problems finding wiring info the 1jz into the SC400, not sure if it's the same as the SC300. I really don't want to keep the 1UZ this is a good reason to dump it. I'm sure the motor is still good, but it was starting to sound like a sewing machine.

 

Figure out what's wrong with the car before you do a motor swap or anything drastic. You might end up doing a motor swap, spend loads of money, and find out your original problem isn't solved.
