Default 1jz and ob2 emissions?

I keep thinking that if i were to put a 1jz in my 97 SC, that the car wont pass a obd2 emissions test. Anyone that has done the swap on a obd2 SC ever pass?

OBD2 is simply a plug in type test, so, as long as your CEL isn't on, then you don't have to worry about not passing afaik. However, that's the Tx test. In other states, they might have sniffers that would be more difficult to pass.

In PA we use the plug in test on 96-newer cars, I am a licensed inspector and the only issue i would see is: that if the 1jz ecu is no longer obd 2 compliant, it would not communciate through the standard DLC port that the US lexus ECU would have used, so the machine will not recognize any car is connected to it and it would fail. to test this theory before going in for emissions, get a universal obd2 scan tool and try to read data or codes, if it displays some info, then it's all good. But i doubt it's gonna work because OBD2 is a US Federal emissions system, don't think it's used in Japan, Plus the US ECU's have a list of "monitors" that run on various systems like the Cat, O2's and EGR and set a PASS or Not Ready status that is seen by the emissions machine to determine a PASS or Fail, even if the MIL is off the monitors may not be set and still Fail, That prevents people from just unhooking the battery right before the emissions test to turn the MIL off. The car must be driven in certain conditions to Pass the monitors and if a component is faulty then a DTC will set at the same time as the monitor runs it's test.
