Hello, I am new to the site and I can see that the dash lights are a big topic of discussion, however I have some very simple questions that I am sure have been asked, and answered here before but I cannot seem to find the answers to my questions. It appears that everyone else is far ahead of me on this topic.

Help me out if you will as I have not had any success with the Lexus dealer "Service Writer" guy!

1. Are the back lights(not the needle lights) conventional push-in style dash lights or is there some type of printed circuit board with a crystal display in it?
The question may seem crazy, however it seems that the "dark spots" wander on the dash board.

2. If in fact the dash lights are conventional, how do you dissassemble the dash to gain access?
Now again, this seems like a really foolish question, however as a tried and true, swear by the Made in USA auto makers, I will admit that these cars are well engineered and any time dissasembly is required sometimes you just have to know the key or trick to getting into the area of needed repair. I cannot figure out how to remove the dash, I do not want to force or damage anything as I am sure that there is a very simple and well thought out way to perform this task.

3. As stated the car is a 95', recently I took it to the dealer for the timing belt replacement and at that time I requested, to Mr. Service Writer guy, to have the dash light bulbs repaired. Mr. Service Writer guy then explains to me "...we dont do that anymore on a car this old,.. but I will give you the name of a guy that does radios,....he will know what to do!"
What is up with this comment? Is there something nuclear about these lights?
After reading the thread about changing the dash light color I am sure that this guy must have had some sort of "referal" deal going on with the radio guy.

Thank you in advance for your help, this site is very informative and active, I look forward to the replys as I would like to see my dash again.

Thanks

If the "dark spots" wander on the dash board, you have intermittent contact with the lights, so see if a few strategically-placed whacks with your fist on the side of the instrument cluster helps.

Dealers don't bother with repairs to clusters, but they are glad to take your money to replace them.
You are better off going to lextech.org and using their services.

Those other questions have been answered so many times on this forum that it's hard to believe you actually searched.
In any case, spend some time on lextech.org and you'll be as "ahead" as the rest of us.
