Default Best base engine?

I recently purchased my black '97 SC300 AT.
I really want a manual transmission and i was wondering what the best motor would be for tuning.
I looked at a 2jz-gte with the 6-speed, and i considered the 1jz, but now im contemplating using the 2jz-ge that i already have and modding it from there including a trans swap
Im hoping to get to at least 400hp out of whatever i choose and it will be my daily driver

just thought i'd ask the people that know best

thanks.

You have a '97; the last year they made the 2jz-ge with strong internals. I would stick with that shortblock and go from there!

Swap in an LS1 engine off a Vette along with the tranny and ECU...Custom weld mount and a drive shaft and all fit in I measured..That would be a first with more power potential then you could imagine..N/A stock power at start is what 300rwhp or so..With cams and exhaust ad another 100hp..

Practically speaking - Got to go with the supra motor and V160 tranny swap if you must have a manual...Power potential is huge on that too........

I don't know what swap would cost you more...Maybe the supra engine and tranny swap...

The newer 2JZ-GEs didnt come with the same rods as the GTE, thus they are smaller and weaker. All the same, get a 2JZ-GTE w/ V160/161

Default budget

i am a college student, so i do have the time to have my car in the shop but the budget is more of the issue
the LS1 swap does sound rather interesting...but it would need me to have some deep pockets for all the custom modification needed
which transmissions hook up well (more easily) with the 2JZ-GE w/ AT?
I'm thinking building the stock motor would be cheapest but it does have 85k miles on it

i want the most reliable and cheapest form of a turbo SC300 m/t
and i want to embarass my two friends who drive a modded '05 WRX and a stock '05 Evo 8 because they spent 30k+ for their cars
i bought my car for $11k and i am excited to have it as my project
