I have a bad headgasket on my 92' SC300 and will be going to Attarco this Thursday to take a look at engines. I was wondering how can you tell if an engine is obd1 or obd2? Attarco said they have 2-4 2jz's but not sure if they are obd1/obd2.

All I know is that the vvti are obd2, but the 96-97 did not have vvti. Would a 96+ motor pass smog on an obd1 vehicle considering they came off a obd2 car?

I've tried searching and cannot find the answers I was looking for. Thanks!

This is just a guess, but don't they stamp the VIN on the block? If so, and if you do some research, you should be able to decipher the VIN to see what year the motor came from.

I don't believe an OBDII motor will work with a OBDI ECU..as far as telling which one a motor is, i guess your best bet would be to do what Dx3 said.

92-95 is obd1 96+ is obd2 simple look at the maf if they have one with it if not look at the o2 sensors on the headers obd1 is single wire o2 and obd2 is 4 wire
