Question

Has anyone replaced their timing belt themselves?
I think my sc4 is due for one, I've done timing belts before but never on a V8 Lex, anyone know the scoop and what's involved?

thanks

Not too hard as long as you follow the directions precisely in the LEXUS SERVICE MANUAL. Take your time and make sure you use a Genuine Lexus Timing Belt. (Costs about $50)

Default What mileage are you at?

Hi Tom,

If you are at the 90k mark I would go ahead and change the Water pump also.

It is in the same location as the timing belt and actually is primarily ran by the timing belt. It is a lot better than tearing the front of the car down again later due to a bad waterpump.

BTW, I have all of the stuff you need, factory Toyota parts. I was going to change it on a car I had but I sold it first. I have a factory Timing belt, Factory Lexus Water pump, and the factory o-rings you will need.

I paid $240 for all of it. I will sell it all for $200 if you want is.

If you are only at 60k I would not worry about the Waterpump unless you normally put a lot of miles on your car in a short period of time. With out a replacement it will go out at 100-120miles almost guaranteed... I have heard from Service friends at Lexus.

I have been waiting to change one for a while, but I have always sold the car before they need it. My SC has 63k miles, the timing belt still looks great so I am going to wait until 90k and change both the timing belt at the wp.

Good Luck,
Scott
