Hey Guys, sorry about the delay. I know some of you have asked me whats going on with th 1UZ.
Chris & I have both been working on different things, and keep putting the 1UZ on the back burner.
We dicided to use stock rods again (Maybe a mistake???)

But the motor is back together, and ready to be mated to the Getrag V-160 6-Speed.

Here are a couple photos of the motor.

Great work Rob & Chris!!!!

Looking back over this thread I can't believe it was over a year ago when you started the new build!!! I was reading old posts saying to myself, "This sounds familiar........"

Yeah can you belive it. The car ran last New Years, and about 2 weeks later blew the head gasket.
We just haven't put in much effort on it lately.
The motors getting 2 new turbos, and a couple little changes, new FMIC and stuff.
Plus the Getrag 6-speed.

1) the ECU is the stock Toyota unit. I also run an additional injector controller. This adds fuel when boost comes in. the additional injector unit is made by 034motorsports it's an 034 EFI Supplementary Injector ECU.

2) the pistons are Ross 8.5:1 compression

3) the rods are the original stock rods. they are good rods, but not as good as the 2JZ rods.

Bob: Great looking motor!!! Glad to see you back posting on the forum, as well as updating us on your progress on your SC. Glad to see you are putting it back together...Yeah, for stock rods, the early 1UZ rods are pretty beefy, but I would question them handling 100 HP each as well.

So when do you plan to have the motor complete and the car on the road again? Are you moving forward with the V160 swap? How is that coming? What clutch are you using from Quartermaster?

Keep us posted...

Actually I'm not sure about the Getrag. Chris is 100% mindset on putting it in, and it sounds supercool to have a twin turbo 6-speed SC400, but the reality is that a 3800Lbs? car with 500 HP to the wheels, the drag radials were hanging on for dear life under anyperformance driving. If you got on it, it simple turned them into smoke.
A maunal is only going to amplify this. the stock gear isn't correct for the getrag, and although I'm sure it would be a blast, I think it will make the car much more "racecar" and I don't know if thats what I'm looking for right now.

Definitely understood...I agree, the SC starts becoming more and more of a race car...That is why I stopped my work on the V160 swap for mine, and went with a BoostLogic built Auto for mine...I should have it back in a few weeks. I was imagining driving on the frequent stop-n-go Interstate traffic with a 6-speed mated to a triple plate clutch, and how "un-fun" that would become...Plus, the cost of just the clutch from between 4k to 6k was not very palatable as well....

Keep us updated, man...

Well guys, I had the motor assembled with the stock rods, and was having an argument with myself about it.
After spending all those days looking at it, and something telling me not to run the stock rods, I broke down, and got a set from Pauter.
Chris & I are also putting in the oil squiters off of the iron block.
The rods from Pauter are labled Tundra, 4.0L I'm not sure if the rods are the same between both motors.

The pin end of the rod is wider then the stock 4.0 rod, which is nice for extra strength, but Chris thinks it may not allow the piston to move as it should.
Were gonna check this out over the next few days, and will let you guys know what we find.
Here are a couple photos I took of the Pistons/Rods.

We quickly fit them to check and see if they clear the block when rotating, and there is plenty of clearence, but we didn't look at the small end in the piston.
It didn't bind when turning it by hand, but we forget to look at it closely.
