Is it possible to just hack the wiring together? They are just different harness plugs?

I wouldn't suggest rewiring the airbag adapters. If something gets shorted, the airbag may go off and cause some severe physical damage. The adapter from Toyota costs less than $10 anyways.

When supraforums comes back up (down for maintenance until Monday morning), I will post what celica steering wheel I have and the part number for the adapter. All the information is in my PM box and I don't have access to it until the server maintenance is done.

i dont know if this is true or not. but to tell the difference from single stage to dual stage airbag. on single stage theres only one yellow harness adapter and on dual stage theres two separate adapters.

heres how a single stage airbag looks like. look at the harness its only one yellow adapter.

heres how a dual stage airbag looks like. is has two harness adapters.

you guys see the difference i hope this helps and is correct. anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong.

2000 airbags are single stage

Yes.... the top pic is single stage and the bottom is dual..

The "SQUIB" adapter can be purchased trhough Elmhurst Toyota from "Curt"

Costs about $20 and is needed for all "newer" single stage since the

harness is slightly smaller than our bulky ones. As mentioned they

can be re-spliced but I prefer not to play with airbag wiring and for $20 ... why?

BTW.... I believe all IS300 airbags are single stage as well... I know the 2002 are..

Cruise and airbags are not related.... Some wheels may require

you to remove your cruise switch and reinstall on new wheel... very easy job

Ok. I wasn't saying that they were related

I see that www.car-part.com has a lot of celica steering wheels (-BLK LEATHER,"GT-S" TYPE). I wonder if they include the airbag and the horn cover.

so i guess any airbag that has the yellow adapter on the back like the first pic i showed is a single stage. and airbags with two adapters are dual stage.

I cannot find the part number nor the year of my celica steering wheel.

You should contact Curt over at supraforums. He will ask you to read off the part number on your celica steering wheel and will then match the adapter.

His contact info:
