The newer supra LCA's are not aluminum, just a slighlty modified design for better "ride comfort". Still heavy cast iron

And I've never heard of you being able to pick up a pair for $200....I thought $400 was as cheap as they came (even for the earlier ones).

 

Who the heck said that?? Who said you can get both control arms for $200? I didn't see that anywhere in this thread...

Supra lower control arms are $210 each plus tax from Carson Toyota. I should know, I just got some for my brother a week ago.

 

If you ask you can get them for $190 apiece at Carson, at least that's what happened to me.

 

I read that real quick, though he was talking about the price for a pair, as I thought the Lexus ones were $400 a pair.

Update: front left caliper bolt (upper) was loose. The caliper was moving over bumps, when braking etc. I had more clunking come back recently and it turned out a lower nut on the sway bar link had come loose. I have tightened it and no more clunking. I have been chasing these front suspension noises for the past couple months !

Lesson: Torque every bolt to spec!!!!!

 

I was told from Carson Toyota that they were aluminum. Obviously I bought the pre-97 LCAs. I would still like to see the newer ones to find out what makes them 2x the cost. Maybe the newer Supras just use the good old Lexus arms?

 

They might not be different at all. New car features for the 97+ Supra's only list new shocks, rear bushings and the rear subframe base being moved as the only new comfort features of the suspension. There's is nothing to indicate they are any different. But no one has done a side by side comparasion so until then we won't know.
My guess is they are the same arms just made by a different manufacturer which can change the part number and price. And even if there is a difference it apparently isn't noticable and not worth worrying about.

 

Who did you talk to? Gordon? He gave me a higher price...

 

I'm not sure who I talked to but when I first called up they first told me they were around $280 apiece, then I said "I was refered by someone that said you would do them for $190" and he just said "sure, no problem$190".
It can't hurt to ask.

 

Gordon wouldn't reduce the price for me and refer me to Steve Ganz. I guess I have to e-mail Steve to ask for a better price since I am buying a lot of stuff from them and a lot more than just the control arm this time

 

I have these damn annoying clunking noises too...I plan to have every nut and bolt in the suspension and braking tightened asap. I also read that we have to make sure the lca bolts are tight as heck too. Geez.

 

anybody with vlamos bushings? feedback?

 

If the 98 up SC has aluminum LCAs I would think the 98 Supra would be aluminum.
