how about fitting the oem lip on the bumper? does it look that bad since it's a few inches shorter on both sides when installed?

Where else are you going to find a nice lip spoiler for the 97-00 front bumper that is AVAILABLE?
Sure, you can go with the Wald which is also super sexy, but that costs about the same, and I think you have to order the whole kit and can't order just the lip since Wald doesn't like to split their kits up.
