Because swapping a SR20DET for weight reduction is like pissing in the ocean. It doesn't matter that much. There are much easier ways t accomplish weight reduction in the car. Tossing the factory seats is a good start. CF doors are another. You could do the 3s swap if your hellbent on a swap. That DOES seem kinda cool, but if your trying to lose weight you picked the wrong car. Just mash the gas and take a wider line...

oh, and welcome to clublexus.
i see it as if you're think someone should drop in a 3sgte i wouldn't see why you would disagree with the sr20. not saying it as an agruement, but both are great powerful 4cylinder motors.

i remember back on rx7club (when i had my FD and roamed around there) there was some guy droping in a SR into a silver FD and everyone made fun of him calling it dumb and telling him to just drop in a 2jz or 20b, but in the end he got the last laugh. i'm sure he's still out there burning up all the other fd's and whatnot out there.

but seriously..for drift 1jz is the best way to go.

I see thanks guys.

Well as for price. I see that you can get a 1jz-gte for around 1500 and do it yourself but it would cost 15k for a 2jz-gte while having a shop do it for you? Is that right?

the 2JZGTE swap isnt much different then the 1JZ. you would have to pay about $3000 for one, but you could still do it if you wanted to. nothing against the SR, but i think if your going to do a redical swap, why not stick with a toyota powerplant? i guess im partial to toyota.

Yeah I'm thinking of staying with the Toyota family. Maybe it wasn't a good idea coming in this forum with a Nissan mind...
I didn't even know people swapped 2jz's with 1jz's til today. Does the 1jz pass emissions unlike the SR engine?

nope they dont' pass. with the 2jzgte you add weight. 1jz is the way to go for the 3rd time

everyone lets not forget the top secret gt500 supra with the 800hp 3sgte swap that does 190mph in 4th gear, lots of power can be had from smaller engines, it just costs a butt-load more. the only reason to do such a swap would be to be different. the extra pounds your saving with the smaller engine arent gunna matter much and its going to hurt you when it comes to trying to get big power

weight reduction + power reduction = no good drifter

weight reduction + increased power = great drifter

no weight reduction + increased power = better choice than option 1

there is a 350Z around with an sr20det . I say why the hell not. I recommend building it up with a bigger turbo before install though as the stock turbo won't be very fun with the heavy SC.
1JZ is a better swap for the SC but if you are trying to be different and are prepared to do lots of custom work go for it !

My s13 with sr20 did 12.85 @ 107mph. dynoed at 267 whp untuned. (s15 t28 turbo) 2800lbs
