I'm looking into a N/A-T kit that comes with a 3mm head gasket. I've heard rumor that it is indeed re-usable but I'm a bit leary. It's the most important seal on the motor. I guess I'm looking for supporting facts or opinions on this. With ARP studs do we think it will hold?

 

You're kidding, right? It's one of the least expensive things you can do parts cost wise, and the most important.

 

My thoughts exactly but I'm curious how many would back this up.

 

A gasket that's that thick might work, but why take the chance?
Might have some luck if the head is O-ringed, and it is a copper gasket.

 

i wouldn't take the risk since you are going forced induction. thats is one thing you don't want to have to worry about beacuse its not like its something that could be easily replaced. for the headgasket to seal...it is smashed between the head and the block so when you reuse it, it is no longer the original thickness and might not seal as well or at all. at the same time it might work just fine but i don't think its worth the risk to save a few bucks. just get a new one and it will save you time and trouble if the reused one ends up failing. i am usally one that reuses gaskets but never a headgasket.

 

On all aluminum Toyota motors it works most of the time. I would not attempt it on cast iron block though.

 

daveh reused his like 5 times. i reused mine once, and know of others that reused theirs as well.
