The trunk release on my 1992 SC400 no longer works. I am talking about the driver compartment release switch.

I don't hear any 'click' as I used to when I hit the button. I looked at the schematic, and I don't see any relay. I looked at the mechanism, and it is a DC motor rather than expected solenoid.

Ideas? Thanks!

I have the same problem on my 93. It does works with the key. It all started when I had my remote start installed. It was off and on and now it's been broken for a few months

are you sure your trunk struts work?
I still haven't replaced my trunk struts and b/c they are so worn out, when i hit the unlock button, it doesn't lift the latch out of the lock.
Maybe that's your problem?
It's a simple fix, i've just been lazy.

i dont think the stuts lift it out of the lock, there should just be a piece of metal in the latch that slides up to lift the trunk hook out of the latch.

Mine is not locked and I think my struts are ok too. They keep the trunk lid open.

More info on problem
Thanks for all responses. Here's more info:

1) Trunk unlocks/opens with key no problem.
2) Switch lock is not engaged, gas tank door release works fine.
3) Trunk struts are OK, just replaced (release still doesn't work, but trunk lid stays up!)
4) Trunk won't open when hitting switch with slight upward pressure on spoiler, so I believe it is the switch/release mechanism-- not the spring preload.
5) All stock. No aftermarket alarm system or other mods.

Thanks again!

Stupid me!
Aw $%#@!

It was the switch lock in passenger compartment. I thought the lock would secure both the gas tank door and the trunk release, but apparently it only secures the trunk lid. When I unlocked it trunk releases fine.

I feel dumb, but it's worth it to have the release working again. THANKS!!

Lock unlock trunk
Same thing I knew it was the lock un-lock near the switch, but my key had worn out and couldn’t insert the key all the way. Luckily I had a spare, unlocked it. Whew.

Thanks for the help.
