Question Dub's on a 96' SC400??

Alright guys, So i fell in love with the 20" x 8.5" ADR Monello wheel. I've been lookin at some SC400's on the internet that are rollin dubs and it looks like its a a pretty tight fit, What are your guys thoughts on me buyin Dub's for my 96' SC400? Do you think i'll have rubbing issues, do you have past experiences with 20's on your car? I'm EXTREMELY un-decisive, so any guidance on what size i should get would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks- Scott

yes, i have them and a few other members. if you're not getting a body kit, go 19's. Dubs will look too big without a kit.

lots of pics are in the gallery

How much rubbing will incur if I throw 20's on my ride? Would I have to get the fenders rolled? ....Any issues if I threw 19's on?

search it- it has been covered a TON-

oh- and rubbing is also dependent on the offset and width of the wheel

WHEELS & TIRES: When shopping for new wheels, take note of the wheel diameter, wheel width, bolt pattern, and wheel offset. Both SC coupes' bolt patterns are 114.3 x 5, stud design, with 12 x 1.5 threading and 60.1 bore. The stock offsets are +50mm. With larger and wider wheels some rubbing may occur on the fender lip or wheel well covers. This rubbing usually occurs when turning the front wheels all the way out or when the suspension bottoms out. Rubbing is attributed to several factors including: the drop height of the suspension, size of the tire sidewall, tire & wheel widths, and the wheel offset. The simple way of resolving a rubbing issue is by softly rolling the fender lip into a sharp wedge or shaving/lifting the wheel well covers where the rubbing occurs.

The largest wheel size that fits the SC wheel wells are 20"x9" in the front and 20"x10" in the rear. 19" wheels and below will fit the SC without rubbing issues in any assortment of wheel widths under 10 inches given the proper offset and tires. The widest tires ever attempted on the SC coupe are 275/30-ZR20 on a 20"x10" rim, 295/30ZR19 on a 19x11" rim, 295/35-ZR18 on an 18"x11" rim, and 315/35-ZR17 on a 17"x9.5" rim. All fitments were reported to work on the rear axles with no rubbing issues.

A chart of tire sizes that are compatible with the SC and offer the similar outside diameters can be found here: http://www.intellexual.net/faq.html#0291. Outside diameter is critial to maintain for the proper functioning of the anti-lock brakes, speedometer, and odometer instruments. These are just some of the tire sizes that fellow ClubLexus members are using on their cars. Some values are expressed as ranges of sizes. No size advertised below guarantees a perfect outside diameter match, it is recommended that you perform outside diameter calculations to ensure the tire is a good match.

Any rim on an SC larger than a "19" looks offensive to me. No disrespect to those with 20's or more, but 19's is as big as you need on the SC.

i've had 18's, 19's, and now i'm rolling on 20s. With a body kit, 20's are needed hands down. With a stock SC, 19s are better.

Just as a FYI, you cannot just buy 20s and slam the car on them to that height, you will have to do EXTENSIVE fender mods. The SC has some important wiring and harnesses above the drivers side wheel, so if you slam on 20s you will just rub through the liner and hit those components. I have heard some instances of cars just simply cutting off mid bump!

Manaray had the parts relocated in a temporary fashion to test fit the iFORGED, he then sold the car, so I dont know who has actually done the work to ensure the car could be safely driven at that height. (Din is slammed, but has air).

You can safely lower about 1.5" or so on 20s. The best looking SC at a 1.5 or so drop and 20" is OneHotSC or AutoCoutureSC. When I was SC-shopping, I'd already resigned myself to the cutting, wiring changes, etc neccessary to run a 2-2.5" drop and 20s.

I think another member already noted that his ADR Monello's chrome peeled on your other post.

Good luck

Actually it does. It doesn't look functional. I drive my car, a lot. Parking it and snapping pics isn't really my thing. I also will not shave or roll fenders to make wheels fit, that's ridiculous. To me, modifying the fenders of a car to make certain wheels fit is a

I don't like the look of 20's on an SC, period, no matter how you slice it. The wheel just looks too large.

I hear ya, thats the beauty of CL, the variety of tastes! To each his own, I'm a big fan of Manaray's SC as well! LOL

That's exactly my point Derrick, to each his own. I just don't like the look for my car. I actually want to step down to some 18 inch Volk GT-7's truth be told, so I can have a little more rubber to the road. I'm more into functionality than looks
