Default ecu or alternator?

i recently had my climate control unit burn out on me. i have read that the ecu connects to the climate control, so im concerned the ecu may be screwed up with out the climate control but based on what happened i think it might be the alternator;

i was driving down the highway and my headlights shut off, then the stereo starts blinking on and off then they shut off, the "trac" and "abs" lights came on, the tach would die and come on the car finally shut down everything very dim and the horn didnt even work. battery was dead; checker auto parts says its the alternator (but half the time they are idiots) so i orderd a new one (autolite) i think that should fix everything??? i mean could the ecu cause everything to act the way it did????

car is a 1992 sc4, 116xxxmiles (alternator was reaplced at 107xxx 2 years ago!)

I'd put my money on it being the alternator, but the reason you're having to replace them so often is probably a leaky power steering pump.
Does your current (broken) alternator have dirty liquid all over it?

ps was replaced 7k ago too. i think this alternator jus kinda fried out it has n't been used all that much in the past year or so then i started using it as a daily driver and it has been rather wet (for arizona) anyways it rained today so i cant do anything but ill check the alternator out when i take it out (im gonna flush the radiator out at the same time) this should save some time when removing the lines to get the the alternator correct?
