to fix or not to fix

Call me crazy, but that damage doesn't look to me to be a car totaler. From the looks of that all he'd need is a rear quarter cut and welded into place, new rear glass, maybe a new power antenna and some body work. Get the quarter used from Aliga and maybe even the glass if he has one. If not you can find one used in a salvage yard. Try car-part.com or TAPrecycling.com. SCryder, your in NY. PM Aliga. He may be able to hook you up with his body shop guy. He says he does great work for very reasonable money. I'd look into it a little further before going through the immense hassle of parting out the car. It doesn't look that bad to me. Good luck whichever way you go.
BTW, Vredniykot recently replaced the entire rear clip on his car plus an entire repaint. Do a search. I think the thread title was 'Project: Phoenix Rising'

Judging by just the pics, it may not be so bad. If the rear tire wasn't touched and the car tracks okay, then it's just body work and that saves a bunch of money.
Get it on a frame machine and get some measurements taken. It's very likely the entire rear end of the car has shifted (is bent) over to the right a few mm. Hits to the quarter like this one will do that.
Welding in a new quarter is definitely possible but it's a hell of a painstaking process that won't be cheap. Just ask Vred that just went thru that process.

Get another car bro, I wouldn't deal with the hassel of putting that back together...even if it's only $2000 to fix that's still a lot of repairing to do. I wouldn't feel safe riding around in a car that had been put back together. Just my 2 cents...but if you're in a tough position and you HAVE to fix it then go ahead, but if you have a choice I'd say to call it a loss and get another.
