i coated one of my cars with this stuff called POR15 and it works very well... it starts at $30 a can

 

I've got a little around the rear wheel wells, but otherwise it's in pretty good shape. The stock wheels I took off were in pretty sad shape. The chrome was flaking off a lot and the aluminum underneath is all oxidized. They'll go back on once the first snow hits.
