Question SERIOUS PROBLEM...PLEASE HELP

SORRY...BUT THIS IS A LONG THREAD (just to let u know)
I was driving home from school yesterday (Thurs.) and I floored my SC and it died right there in the middle of the road. The rpm's went to 2, so I let off and tried it again and the rpm's went to 6 but the car didn't accelerate and then went down to 2 again. I pulled over and turned the car off and waited for a minute, then turned it back on. I took it directly to the LEXUS dealer (which luckily was about 5 min. away) and they said that they would have to keep it overnight to do diagnostics testing. This morning (Fri.) they called and said that there was some computer that had to do with regulating the gas (I think that is what he said but not quite sure, but do know that it had to do w/ gasoline) and that the comp. was shot. They said that there wasn't one lying around so they would have to order one and I would get my car back on Mon. When I asked if I could take it home and bring it back on Mon., they said no b/c it wasn't safe to drive. My mom asked about a loaner, but they say that they don't have one so we have to do w/ 3 drivers and 2 cars for the weekend. I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and if anyone knows exactly what this comp does.? Also, if they don't have a loaner, shouldn't they give us a pre-owned car on the lot, take a little of the final cost (at the very least), or this: there is another LEXUS dealership about 15 min. away and I think that the dealership where I took my car should get a loaner form the other dealership and let my mom use it.
If it makes any diff. I have a 1992 SC300 Auto w/ approx. 90,000 miles
P.S. Very sorry for the long thread

Hello,

There you go, you are another victim of this stopped computer. From what you wrote, its clear that its your fuel pump ECU. You were lucky enough to be able to drive the car to the dealer. I called it stopped because it shuts off the fuel supply while you are driving and cause the car to turn off. After few minutes of wait,it will start. After a month or so,from the beginning of this problem the computer will shut off the car and it will never start again, until the ECU is changed.

Damn, that sucks. Hope they get it back to you soon.

As for the loaner -- unless the repair is under warranty (do you have a Lexus extended warranty) you're not entitled to a loaner. That's not to say you shouldn't ask for one for your inconvenience, but I don't think they are under any obligation to give it to you.

Default Serious Problem....please help

My 92 sc400 did the same thing today. I floored it going around a sharp corner w/the traction control off and it just stalled for about a half a second. It felt as if the traction control was on but I had it off. After the stall my car ran fine afterward. I didn't let off on the gas b/c I was pissed that it had happened in the first place so stupid me I just kept it floored and no problem since. I do need to have it checked out before anything major happens.
Regarding the loaner car from the lexus dealership I have had no problem getting one from them even with my car not being under warranty anymore. 135kmiles. I was told from them that it's just the matter of them having one available that day or the appointment date.
