Question

I have a 1992 SC300 and was thinking about getting a strut bar if i can find one. What is the purpose of a strut bar exactly? I am just starting to look into high performance mods and have seen lots of highly modified cars w/ a strut bar.

Strut bar bolts the tops of the shock absorber mounts under the hood together with a rigid bar so there's less 'flex' in the body when putting a load on either side (i.e., turning, or bumps).

Makes the car corner better and feel more 'tight'.

It's a good upgrade. I have a TRD one on my GS400. NICE piece.

Here's a pic (excuse my dirty engine!):

I also have a '92 SC300 and just purchased one myself. It feels great and well worth it. Look around the net, they aren't very expensive. I got mine for $95 delivered.
good luck!

Default I forgot to mention...

....I bought it from Dayle at Motorsport warehouse. Tell him Thom from Naperville sent ya!
Also, you have to be careful when you install it. Make sure there is enough clearance between the bar and the top of the manifold otherwise you will hear and feel vibration when the engine is running. A few adjustments of the bolts to increase the space will fix that.

Veil,
you know what - I don't even remember! I'll check it out when I get home. I started out looking at the Cusco and Dayle at Motorsport warehouse quoted me something like $130 and he was out of stock. He did have one for cheaper, $95, and in stock. That's the one I ended up getting. It's painted red at the ends which bolt down to the strut tower, and is a polished oval bar in the middle, pretty solid. Several adjustment points w/ simple nuts and bolts. I think they are mostly the same, just some differences in the look.
