Default tps-searched

Hi all. I took the car in for the 'check engine light'. They found it was the TPS sensor. Surprise...Anyhow, they were charging me about $220 to replace it. I can do it myself. The question is since the motor is an n/a mkiv motor, can I go to Toyota and buy the part? I've searched. I'm only asking b/c I bought the power steering high pressure hose from Toyota, found it was the wrong part, was charged the restocking fee and had to pay $500 for a Lexus one. I have a '96 SC300 5 spd. Thanks

The Toyota one should work, but first call your Lexus dealer and get the part number. Then, call Toyota about the same year Supra and make sure the part numbers are identical.

Before doing all that, however, you can check the TPS yourself. Based on this schematic: http://www.mkiv.com/manual/1995_elec...95elec_087.JPG test for 5v on pin 4 colored blue/red with the key "on". Next, test for ~0v on pin 3 (yellow) when the throttle plate is closed, and test for ~5v at WOT.

The wire colors might be different on your car; so use the pin numbers on the sensor itself to get the correct wires. If you're not getting change between 0 and 5v, then the sensor is bad.

You might also want to check with our ClubLexus vendors to see what kind of prices they get you. Since you're in CA you will still have the sales tax with Steve Ganz / Carson Toyota, but still likely will be competitive. lexus-parts.com offers our members a good discount + out of state for you.

Click below for more info and links to both of them. You may have to call their toll free numbers to get the part (not on web) but they both can get all genuine Toyota & Lexus parts.

Ok I'm back again. I called the Lexus dealership and they gave me part #89452-33010 for the TPS sensor. I called a Toyota dealer for the same part. I told them it was for the 2JZGE for an n/a supra. They said that the part # I gave him was for the MR-S, Camry and Corolla and that I need part # 89452-22090 for the 2jz. Can anyone confirm?! Thanks again.

heres something you should try first. remove it and clean it, then re-install it. i did this when my engine was shutting off by itself while i was driving and lexus said it was the tps sensor. they wanted like 3 hundred to fix it but i said nevermind. when you reinstall it, the original position might not be the best position so you should try to rotate it and find the one what best suites your need. it worked for me, so it might work for you, just like to share. ;]
