Default Clutch Position Sensor?

Hi there, I just got my 92 5-speed and there is something funky with the clutch position sensor (if there even is one). When I try to start the car, I push in the clutch all the way, turn the key, and sometimes it will start right up, sometimes it takes a few tries, sometimes it takes many tries. I know its not a problem with the starter or anything cause when it starts up, it does start up perfectly. I just have to keep letting out the clutch and pushing it back in to start it and its annoying. I tried putting in gear and it didnt help until I put it in reverse and started the car..it worked the second try??

Well, if anyone could help me with this I would more than appreciate it. I even looked in the factory repair manuals and it says nothing about this.

Alrighty, thanks alot

The only thing preventing the starter from operating is the clutch switch, located in the driver footwell, just above the clutch pedal itself. I would suggest checking that switch, perhaps a loose wire or corroded connection... sometimes just unplugging and re-inserting the plug can resolve connector problems.

It could also be a problem in the ignition switch itself, but you could check that by putting a voltmeter on the clutch switch, which should get power on one side when the key switch is turned to start

what phil said is totally correct
for a quick check - unplug the switch
& jumper the 2 wires together on the
connector side
that will bypass the switch & car should
start fine every time
not to be smart or anything - but your
floor mat didnt slide up high under
the pedals & limit the pedal hitting the floor?
sean that alot on customer cars
good luck john
