Hi there, so the yellow oil light on the dash (“low oil level”) is always on. I understand it is likely my oil level sensor (duh!). This is for a stock 1992 SC300. Two questions for the gurus:
1. I can not find the part specific to the earlier years (apart from a $600 rockauto part). I see there are versions available for later year GS300 and IS300s, which looks exactly like how mine should look. The part number for that is 89491-30050 (see below). Would this work?
2. I’ve read that you need to drop the oil pan to replace this part. Is this true?
Thanks!!

You shouldn't have to drop the oil pan, just unplug it and remove the four screws holding it on the upper oil pan section, then remove it.
These rarely fail, not to be rude but you made sure to check your oil first yes?
And these are discontinued, part #89491-14050 but you should be able to go to any junk yard with an SC300 and yank one out. Other models wont work because of the oil pan differences and the bends of the oil sensor to reach the determined position.
I did find a used one on sale at JDM Miami for $115, but to be honest I bet if you ask on the SC300 group on facebook you would find several people with spare 2jzge bottom ends that would toss you one of these for WAY cheaper. I'm not even running one on my aftermarket build because I use an oil pressure/temperature sensor, but I think I threw mine away.
My guy!! Thanks so much for replying and sharing that part number. Oil level is definitely ok according to dipstick. I’ll pop out my sensor and see if it’s gunked up, otherwise will need to source a used replacement. Thanks again!

I’ve actually see the floats broken a lot of times. I do have a good used one that’s been cleaned sitting in my toolbox, $100 shipped to lower 48 states. Pull yours out like Joe said ,check the plastic float and or clean.
