Question Question about Distributor location

I'm most likely just overthinking this, but when the distributor is in, does the procedure here account for the tooth moving? If I do it the way Lexus intends, the tooth will be misaligned with the marks by one tooth when placed inside. Is this correct? If not, I was thinking of putting it in one tooth off so it's aligned inside.

Thumbs up

You're right, its the 2jzge. I am having trouble with getting my sc to run.. It's my first project and I decided to time the engine by myself along with the distributor-- without a timing light. I got it to start for the first time, which lasted around 10 seconds. I used the pedal while the clutch was in to rev it only to 2.5k to try to force it to stay alive, but I heard it slow down and I took the key out. I assumed I just needed to try the timing again since it wasn't too hard, but each next try resulted in endless cranking and the smell of fuel. I noticed that my fuel pump does not prime when I turn the car to accessory mode now-- could the first start after 6m-1y sitting affect this, and just fry the fuel pump? By a friend, I was recommended to check the fuel pump ecu, fuel pump filter, and then the entire fuel pump; carefully taking the car's stock ecu out to inspect for corrosion as well. I am 85% sure the issue just lies with the timing, the other 15% the other issues. I am learning a lot and at the same time my car is very close to running!! If you or anyone can help me with something I may not be taking into account, please let me know !!

The only way to set the timing correctly is with a timing light. Jump the pins in the data port, sorry don’t recall which two but it’s on here somewhere. Move the distributor til it’s 10 degrees, lock it down, pull the jumper.

You are correct it will turn when you engage the gears but it should point to no1 plug wire when engine is on top dead center.

Correct, line up the housing as stated in the directions. Have the rotor pointing BEFORE #1 when installing the distributor so it is pointing @ #1 when fully seated.
