I was driving around 15 miles an hour and I made a right turn and the car tried to turn on while it was already on and wouldn’t stop trying to turn on. It was having a seizure….
so it ended up shutting the car off trying to crank.
Now, when you put the key into the on position without trying to crank it, it automatically starts cranking like crazy and won’t actually turn over.
I looked under the driver’s wheel and there’s these cables that are cut. I’m not sure where they go or if that’s the issue..
I’m trying to avoid replacing the starter if I have to, but I already ordered one just in case.
Has anyone else experienced this or know what to do?
Maybe the ignition switch? Try removing it and cleaning the contact points.
Doubt that's the wiring to the starter. Not 100% certain but it should go from the stalk to the fuse box/starter relay direct to battery and starter, so all should be tied up top.
Gonna try to remove the ignition switch and clean it. While I’m at it I’m going to replace the head unit with a BOSS unit since I wasn’t getting good sound with the Bluetooth Cigarette Thing.
That is a strange one! Those wires go to the marker light or the horn or something. The starter had its main power coning directly from the battery, and then there is also a solenoid that activated the starter. I think your most likely culprit is going to be a bad relay. A relay is basically just an on/off switch and it’s much likely that it has malfunctioned and it’s stuck in the on position. You should be able to find it under the hood, in the relay or fuse box. They should be labeled, if you find it, just unplug it and see if it selves the problem. If it is, you can get a new one at the auto parts store for just a few bucks.
I would probably suggest to take the Starter Relay out first, if you are suspecting the Key Switch, the Relay is the only piece the Key can actually trigger, so you will see whether it is the issue without the need to take half of the car apart. You can also inspect the Relay itself, they do have a tendency to "Melt" sometimes, fusing the Switch to one of the Terminals. That said, if you hear the Starter Spinning but not Engaging with the Flywheel, there aren't too many options as to which part went bad..
Either way, if none of the above helps, a Video of the issue would be helpful.
