Default ECU with 1998 date code in my '94?

Pulled out the computer to take care of some (the usual) issues and found something interesting. This looks to me like a 1998 date stamp. Am I wrong?

Again, this is a 1994 model year car. More pics below ...

I have a bunch of ECUs laying around all of them have a date code within a year of the actual model year car it came out of. Don't know what's going on there. Latest 89661-24231 was used should be September 1994.

Yeah, I found it pretty interesting. Maybe it was serviced or replaced (under warranty at that time) for some reason or another? Went looking for TSBs but did not see anything referring to computer problems on this car. Unlike my '95 LS which indeed had known issues and updated ECUs. Never a recall ... but if you *****ed enough about the problems the dealer would swap in an updated version. Got one in my LS. Weird huh?

Probably an exchanged unit at the dealership, since some dealerships are rebuilding and reselling refurbished units.

Looking at it now, I think it's just a smeared '93. Build date of the car is also '93. Early production for the '94 model year.
