New Lexus RZ450e
Just saw a short video on this future EV Lexus. Stylistically, it seems to resemble the new Toyota Crown. I wonder if this all electric vehicle will replace our 350ES in the Lexus lineup a few years from now?
Incidentally, I don't like is RZ 450e. Reminds me of the old Honda Crosstour! Instead, I'll buy the last 350 ES they make!

It seems cool. Saw it last night. That range sucks though. 200-225 miles. It tells you off the bat that the electric car game is dominated by real established EV players (Tesla) and legacy automakers are using off the shelf parts and as a result are highly inefficient. Tesla is probably 10 years ahead. They may have their build quality issues etc, but the actual optimization is out of this world good.

I am looking forward to seeing what is taking Lexus so long to offer EV, especially since they plan on EVERYTHING being EV in 2030.

As good as teslas are, i dont like the crowd that drives them. Or that they're so common. So I refuse to drive one. I want a good EV from a legacy maker. I think China will have the first great ones if they ever come to the US. I think it's only a matter of time. I did see a bright orange Mustang EV this morning. looked good.
The one things I like about EVs (when they're built as EVs from the ground up) is they have inherently sturdier/safer bodies vs. ICE based cars. Most EVs also weigh 5,000 lbs. So you really don't want to be in your ICE car vs. an EV in a crash. May as well join the club! Something to think about.

Tesla had a great design 10 years ago, and they've been literally and figuratively coasting on it every since. C/D said it well: Their one remaining advantage is their Supercharger network. Take that away, and Emperor Elon has no clothes.

Let's not turn this into a Tesla thread again. I think this whole topic is in the wrong forum anyway. But I can tell you as someone who drove Tesla from 2015-2021 and still keeps tabs on what the company is doing that is the last company you should give your business to if you want BEV.

Though TMC has huge issues sourcing lithium ion batteries, hence hybrids and plug-ins will be around for some time yet.
Hence, the next generation 8ES could be replaced by a Toyota Crown Crossover Sedan derived 8ES powered by a choice of either 2.5L Hybrid or 2.4L Turbo Hybrid.

Will the Lexus RZ450e replace the ES? No... The RZ450E is just an EV RX. If anything were to replace the ES, it would have been the RX. But will the ES see an 8th generation? 100%.
With TNGA I expect the ES to hold out for quite a bit longer, especially if the Camry is still selling hundreds of thousands of cars a year. The best-selling Toyota is the Rav4, which sold 407,739 cars in the US in 2021. The Camry sold 313,795 for comparison. So the Camry will easily see the 9th generation and most likely a 10th.
On the Lexus side of things, the best-selling Lexus is the RX, which sold 101,059 in the US for the 2020 year, vs 43,292 for the ES. Quite a large difference, but definitely not enough for Toyota to justify axing the ES.
You may argue they got rid of the Avalon, but the Avalon also only sold 18,421 cars in 2020. 18,421 vs 43,292 is too large of a difference to think the ES will be treated the same way.

I was looking at the Chevy Equinox EV coming in late 2023 as a 2024 model. Just when my ES lease comes up... i'd be tempted to trade. 300 mile range, 40-50k. So it would sit right in the price slot of an ES. It seems this is the first time I'm seeing a decent EV in this 40-50k range. Everything else is 100k. Decent to me is roomy, stylish, and with minimum 300 mile range. This hits all the marks.
44kish for this top dog model, the 3RS. loaded with all the cool stuff. What do you think, Mikemu and BC6152? Ready to make the switch to electric?
