Maybe it's only me.

I really hate to see someone uses the same model as the Taxi, the yellow cab (not limo) in NYC. My last encounter was in '96 while driving '94 Nissan Maxima. I said to myself I wouldn't buy any Taxi model again.

I guess it's because the too-low price for RX or this driver/company got super good deal from the used car market.

 

I've been in an 09 RX400h yellow cab. You sure the one you saw was not a hybrid?
The only hybrid cab I have not been in is a Ford Fusion. Have not seen one of those.

 

In Europe, you see lots of Mercedes cabs. In the past it might have been because of the reliability the conditions these vehicles are used, and maybe now someone has decided to use an RX for the same reason.

I remember a country nearby Greece had tons of old MB cabs or cars on the streets. And, some of Italian police even used Lamborghini as the police car. I know each country has their own rules and values on cars... but we rarely see those high-end vehicles used as the regular NYC yellow taxi. Even though they want to use, please don't buy the same car as I'm driving. I seem to have a bias against NYC yellow cab.

 

I was in Vancouver last fall and all the taxis were Prius!

 

Make that 2! Saw a loaded RX in yellow checkers... Did not walk up close to see, if it was a Hybrid or not. Still, wierd.

 

If it was in NY I am sure it was a 400h, not sure if anyone has a 450h yet....I believe all taxis are moving to hybrids in NY no? NYPD has a deal to buy Altima hybrid police cars too.

 

It's 3rd gen RX without the blue badge in the back...



As for NYPD, I'm not sure. Most of cops still enjoy the large engine vehicles with the traditional power delivery.

 

Only the non-essential part of NYPD uses Altima Hybrid. Like parking tickets. The real cops use American V8. Next version will be a Chevy Caprice with a 6L Corvette engine.
