Default Options for stereo replacement in 2006 RX400H

I just bought a 2006 Lexus RX400H and I love everything about it......except the factory stereo system. I went to a car audio shop today and they told me it would be extremely difficult to replace the stereo due to the configuration of the dash. He said I could upgrade the speakers and add an amp, but that was the best they could do.

I have the basic 6-disc changer stereo with no nav.

What options are available for upgrade or replacement? Is this something I have to do at the dealership? Should I just upgrade the speakers, etc?

Sorry about that - tried to search google, but didn't have any luck. And yes, the picture you showed would be similar to what I was thinking. I was looking at a single din stereo, but could be persuaded to go with double din if needed or if it looked better. Commenting on the most recent post with the website, will pieces made for the RX330 or RX350 fit for the RX400? (I am sure that has been answered somewhere on the site, but once again, I seem to be horrible at searching for information.

As far as I know they are the same radio. You best bet is email the Beatsonic people. They will let you know.

You can always go the single din route instead of double din, using the same bracket/install kit as listed above.

We drive Lexus not Honda civics. so please don't cheapen the car with single din deck.

Finally got my iPhone mount in today. So I will be putting in my Double DIN Kenwood stereo in this weekend.

Here is a picture of just the mount for the phone. 100 dollars

I disagree. Please explain how a single din player cheapens the car compared to a double din player. I know of single din players that cost between 2x-5x more than any double din HU that is currently available, or ever made for that matter.

For comparison, both Ferrari and Lamborghini put single din players in their cars, I guess they must be cheap?


Keys, nice mount. How does the phone stick to it? Or does it just rest on it?

The RX comes with a size of a double din setup, it's natural to replace it with a double din system to retain some of the factory look. You might want to say so is a single din with a pocket hole. Well, it's just my personal opinion
single din with a pocket hole in most cars means you're not getting the full sound system for the car, a component is missing therefore to replace that emptiness, factory is replacing that missing component with a function pocket, hence my logic of single din cheapens the look on the RX.

You maybe right in some case single din decks may cost 2x-5x more than a double din but when you spend that kind of money on a deck, you also need to change the high end 2x-5x cost of wiring, speakers,etc to match the quality of the high end single din.

Now I said single din cheapens the RX and I never said anything about the stereo system in a Lambo or a Ferrari are cheap. So there is no comparison there

I have a mount for my iphone that I will put on this weekend. Just a couple holes and screws. I am waiting to put it together this weekend. I am having a Double DIN Kenwood installed.
