Ok, this is for everyone except for Ederny, what a *****!

Follow these instructions and it should take you no longer than 15 minutes.

1. Remove 2 screws at the top of the black bezel around the cluster.
2. Pull trim piece straight out on the left of the steering wheel, the trim that houses the seat memory switch.
3. Pull trim piece straight out that is around the key.
4. Tilt steering wheel all the way down.
5. Remove black bezel around cluster, start from the bottom and pull out.
6. Remove 2 screws holding cluster in. They are on the side of the cluster.
7. Pull cluster out enough to get your hand behind and unplug the 3 connectors.
8. Remove cluster from car, you will kinda have to move it around a little bit to get it out, be careful not to scratch the lens.
9. Lay cluster face down on a soft towel.
10. You will see a white plastic cover on the back, remove the 8 gold colored screws holding this cover on.
11. Pull cover off, turn the cluster over and look where the gear selector letters are, on the oppisite side you will see 3 black and 2 green little cap looking things. These are the bulbs. Simply unscrew to remove. you may swap the park light bulb for the drive bulb. Or you can order one in advance.
12. Put all together in reverse order.
13. It sounds like alot of steps, but it is all very easy and understandable once you start.

It is a very small bulb. Not a standard size. The price from my dealer is $12.46. I will be changing mine when I get a chance.

 

I've got the same issue with my 2002 RX. I plan to replace the bulb this weekend. Do you have any suggestions where I can get a $2.00 bulb (as stated in a previous post)? Or is this a dealer part that I'm going to have to order directly from them?

Bulbs are pretty unique, almost look like male snaps (the one on baby clothes). I dont think they will be available in open market.

Save on the labor by DIY (just make sure you dont loose the screws) and just buy the bulb from the dealer.

I called Sewell Lexus in Dallas and ordered the bulb for around $3.00 using the CL discount. The parts department knows this part very well. Must be one common replacement part!

I got the bulb from my dealer and it is # See Edit. Hope that helps Oh and the bulb cost me 4.86 including tax. What is this CL discount? I am assuming clublexus right? How can I use it?

EDIT: The dealer gave me the incorrect bulb I will get the correct one tomorrow and then post the updated Part #.

 

Not all dealers honor CL (Club Lexus) discount. Check the sponsors here and the discount offred by them.

Usually the discounts run upto 10%. Consider all factors like, actual saving, convineince, shipping and handling chrages etc.

Here are some photos to help out with the quick project. My only change is to step 6. There were '3' screws on my 2002 RX.

 

Yes, my D shift light also burned out at 57,000 miles. This is my first real problem with my Lexus (not caused by stupid Toyota/Lexus mechanics.)

On the other hand, it would be nice that Lexus used LED instead of light bulb. LED is far less likely to burn out.

Like some others, I will leave it out. Don't want to have my instrument cluster disassembled by those idiots and get rattles later on.

 

I had it at the dealer...they fixed it for free even though I did not ask (that was okay) and did not charge me. Went out a few weeks later. LOL

I like off and no need to be looking at the D light down there anymore. I know perfectly well what gear I am in.

 

You don't have to remove that cover to access the "D" bulb.
