Did Lexus go too far with electronics in 5th generation?
I have a 2019 RX 450h. I am not a fan of the new complications in the new generation RX. Other than CarPlay I think they have started to go too far. I want analog door handles, push button controls and minimal touchscreen controls with a screen that does not overwhelm the dashboard area. Oh-and I like analog gauges. Do you agree? Or should I just get out of the way? Will Lexus listen and dial back a bit or is it too late? Oh-and keep the V6!
I agree with most of your preferences, but I love the large display. As for the V6, I was never impressed with the v6 to begin with, but am impressed with the 4, especially the hybrid 4. The only thing the 6 had on the 4, imo, is a nicer sound. I've already gotten used to the sound of the 4 though.
No, Lexus won't be turning back, imo.

@BKLJ23 Embrace changes buddy. Imagine the other half of people that like the changes and what they think. Would they want analog gauges? Do they want analog door handles? I can honestly care less. I am just thankful that I have a car to drive period or a car that starts and it drives.

I don't like them, though it's mainly due to the fact that my knee hits it in certain positions and the fact that the passenger one doesn't unlock the door. One has to push the unlock button first. In every other vehicle I've owned, pulling the lever unlocked the door also.
I like that it won't let you unknowingly open the door into traffic. I dont like the outside door controls. I'd prefer a mechanical connection.
The truth if it is that I've never owned a vehicle that I didn't have niggling complaints about though, and that includes the 2013 RX350 we had before this RX...

From my new car buying search almost a year ago now, one would have pay very high $$$ for a car in this category that has 6 cylinders. And who knows when you might actually get delivery of it. And expect very high maintenance/repair costs. Just not for me.
I was very hesitant to to put money down on my Lexus because of the engine in particular. My local dealer (there is only one) didn't have a RX350 with the T24A-FTS engine to test drive so I pretty much committed to buying a Lexus product (or forfeit $1,000) without the opportunity to test drive the one that I wanted. But so far I am very happy with it. Aside from the whinny/buzzy engine noise at slower speeds with a heavy throttle input, it is a very nice vehicle and I enjoy driving it. It has plenty of power when you ask for it or need it.
I think that the same could be said for all of your other "wants" (analog door handles, push button controls etc.). I suggest that you keep your 2019. JMHO
Having both the older V6 RX and the new Over Teched 4 Cylinder Hybrid, here are my options:
1- Engine: V6 sounds and feels sweat, but the bank account likes the 4 Cylinder Hybrid ALOT more. uses less than half the gas. Performance is not much worse. I am not a heavy footer, so I am okay with the 4 Cylinder. when I need the power to pass or move it moves with a slight delay. Not sure if it can really tow my trailer. We will find out in few months
2- Electronic door handles: Totally unnecessary. Too complicated. I have to teach everyone getting in the car how to get ina nd out and I have to push the park putton everytime someone needs to get out since it will not automatically unlock like the manual handles.
3- I am okay with the touch screen, but this whole profiles setup that half the time does not work is another unnecessary complication
4- I actually like the digital dash. I wish the RX came with the 12" digital dash and offered real customization. The current system does not offer real customization. Some lexus Engineers decided couple of setups they liked and allow you to choose between them.
I have to say the new RX5 drives much smoother, quieter and handles much better than RX4. I have the F sport RX4 and the regular RX5 still handles better.
I do not think V6 will come back in mid size cars and sedans and I think the car companies are going all in with the technology so that they can start charging subscription for all features in the future.
I would not be surprised if in the future they deduct money from the credit card every time you push the door button to get in. and if you didn't pay doors wont open

I love the tech and I think it is long overdue as the competition is still pushing the limits in this regards. Whilst the progressive and conservative approach is by Lexus. The balance of analog and technology was done really well. The doors are very simple and rather intelligent from a safety standpoint.
I often wondering how much one plays with dash controls when driving. My focus is on the drive and not adjusting anything. With that said I have zero issues controlling anything I need.
Like anything in life, folks make grumblings about how it used to be. Because change is scary and learning new things doesn't come easy for certain demographics. I see it all the time in technology.
@BKLJ23 If you ever get to owning one. I'd be interested in your opinion, but I am glad they got away from the V6 and made advancements.
