2023 rx350h iridium paint chips
Agreed! I use CERAKOTE Rapid Ceramic Paint Sealant and will never apply wax again. I can apply and wipe off in just an hour or so, the whole vehicle including the roof, and I have never seen anything that sheds water and dirt so well! Shine is awesome!
I agree with your statement to not tailgate. I have changed the way I drive since purchasing this vehicle after sustaining a few stone chips on the front bumper shortly after taking delivery. I always try to keep extra distance from the car in front of me (that's a good thing), but sometimes unavoidable when someone switches lanes and cuts in front of you. I too have the Iridium which comes with a premium $$. I must admit I am disappointed in the paint quality on this vehicle (thickness/ durability) and feel it is inferior vs. my previous 4Runner with over 200K which had no PPF on the bumper and didn't look that bad given its mileage. I also think the front bumper plastic is softer as the chips I sustained not only chipped the paint but the impact point also created a gouge/ divot in the underlying plastic.
If you look closely at the original posters pics, you can also see nicks in the black trim pieces around the fog lights and spindle grill; soft plastic?
Could this "easy chipping" of the paint be related to certain colors only; Iridium being one of them or just thinner/ cheaper paint across all colors?
Looks like its not model specific and there are other posts on this forum which people have complained about the same issues in prior years/ models.
I thought it was just me but now I see others are having the same issues with paint chipping easily. PPF is obviously an option, but paint should not chip this easily. If a stone impact damages the PPF, although the underlying paint may not be damaged you still have to live with the damage to the film unless you replace it.
Then there is the scenario where if the underlying paint is damaged you cannot touch up the paint with the PPF in place. I would also be concerned with potential damage to the paint (peeling) if the PPF is removed in the future as I think this paint formulation is definitely inferior and thinner to earlier Toyota/ Lexus vehicles.

I guess this has become my personal fixation, but I'll ask again if in fact this is paint we're talking about? I checked out this area on my new RX and this definitely seems like a plastic substance, and I don't think it has paint on it, it seems to be imbued in the plastic.
Can anyone confirm that this paint? Because I'm quite certain that the surface isn't metal...

I have the same car same color. I also have the same problem. The front bumper is completely beat up. It is starting to even get small gouges/scratches in the bumper. Ridiculous problem. Called Lexus and the said it was environmental damage. Also had one Lexus dealer tell me they have fragile paint and it sucks. He also noted I should have gotten the car ceramic coated.
I agree. The car needs to be PPF in the front and rear. My car even has chips and scratches on the front and rear bumpers. Even the tailgate is getting them. I made a complaint with Lexus but did nothing.
