Insurance add-on for "customization"
I'm curious if any of you have talked with your insurance company about coverage on things we are adding or were added by the dealer for us at purchase. Example - I just got PPF installed on my 2023 RX350 by a professional company. I asked my insurance agent if that would be included if I had to file a claim where body work was needed. He said my policy covers $1,000 for "customization" and anything above that I'd have to pay extra to be covered. It's only $15 per year to add to cover $3,000 in customization. I see some members here are adding dashcams, trailer hitch, etc.. which are permanently installed. He said if I added the coverage that "may" provide weight to make the other driver's insurance cover it if I was not at fault, or my insurance would cover it since I added it to my coverage and then go after the other drivers insurance to reimburse them.
Never had that happen to me. In fact, the last crash included coverage for the PPF. I think if it was a total loss you might not get back all the money you paid for PPF, but in reference to that last crash, I did get some money for a hitch I installed as it was not factory.
