Using my iPod 160 GB classic in 2017 RX 350
I have connected my iPod using a USB cable. However, my real issue is that if I disconnect the USB cable from the iPod I totally lose my place on my iPod. Is there some way I can preserve my spot on the iPod when I disconnect the USB cable?

Have you tried not unplugging it? That's the only way I've ever used it and it worked ok. It had other issues, which is why I just switched everything over to a large flash drive.

Using my iPod 160 GB classic in 2017 RX 350
Mike, thanks for sticking with me on this. I previously used (in my old car) my iPod with an iDeck cassette player insert. It did everything I needed. My challenge is that I enjoy listening to books on my iPod. So, I like to plug it into the car and listen while I'm driving and then pull it out of the car and wear it on my belt while I'm walking, gardening, etc. I want to be able to start the book exactly where I left off when I move the iPod back and forth. I could do this with the iDeck. It would also charge my iPod battery.
I have tried the AUX source and I can move the iPod back and forth, keeping the same spot in my audiobook. However, I have to remember to manually turn the iPod off before I shut the engine off (or my iPod will cancel my location and go back to the iPod index) and the AUX source will not charge the iPod battery.
Do you know if I have any other options to try?

I never used it for audiobooks, so I really can't speak from experience. I Googled "ipod audiobook restarts" and saw a bunch of results that seem to be similar to your issue, but they're kind of old. Does your iPod have the latest SW?

Might it be time to update from the iPod Classic to a newer Touch model? That or a used iPhone used as an iPod would probably work much better. I know my iPhone picks up right where I left off with podcasts, music, and audiobooks.

Thanks again Mike,
You opened my mind to new possibilities. I have an iPhone 6s plus with 128 GB. If I understand you correctly this could be my iPod replacement. Not as much memory as my iPod, but certainly adequate. I just have to figure out how to transfer my audiobooks from iTunes to my iPhone. I briefly looked into it since your last response and it looks a more difficult (at least for me) than a thought it should be. I will work on it though.

You can sync the iPhone with ITunes Joe. Same way you synced your audio books on to your iPod. Just connect and launch iTunes.
