Different standards of Qi perhaps?

Pros:
-magnetic - just throw it on without any alignment and it starts charging. Also easy to grab and go
-phone is closer to eye level (less looking up and down and refocusing)
-still able to use the cup holders without blocking the phone
-compatible with tons of cheap Qi receivers

Cons: Cable still visible and Qi receiver is bulky (they do make smaller ones though)

hello, any update how your solution is working out ??
also is there links or more information to the parts used for mounting and charging please.

thanks so much!!

currently using these in both vehicles, but i think they left a oily residue and i would hate to mark up my new dash it uses a 17mm ball.

I purchased both the magnetic mount and qi charger from ebay. Here are some examples:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/272967516301 - magnetic mount
https://www.ebay.com/itm/112641219166 - qi charger magnetic mount

So far I like the qi charger more than my old magnetic mount. When using GPS, the phone will barely increase charge but the convenience factor is worth it. I can just slap my phone on and pull it off when I am out and about. If I want to charge my phone faster, I still have the option of plugging in a cable.

Both mounts come with 3M VHB tape which is designed for car surfaces and can be cleanly removed.

I like that too,
Does the phone stay put pretty good? Or is it bouncing and charging pausing?
Thanks so much

I purchased a Qi charger from Amazon:
Amazon.com:
https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Wireless-Charger-Charging-Smartphone/dp/B00W1VSFQW/ref=pd_sbs_147_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00W1VSFQW&pd_rd_r=E4AQA0R4S1KDHTN0KGV6&pd_rd_w=4hgvs&pd_rd_wg=8wHbW&psc=1&refRID=E4AQA0R4S1KDHTN0KGV6 https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Wireless-Charger-Charging-Smartphone/dp/B00W1VSFQW/ref=pd_sbs_147_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00W1VSFQW&pd_rd_r=E4AQA0R4S1KDHTN0KGV6&pd_rd_w=4hgvs&pd_rd_wg=8wHbW&psc=1&refRID=E4AQA0R4S1KDHTN0KGV6

And a Anker Quick Charge 12vt plug:
"><img src=" /> ">
Amazon.com: Quick Charge 3.0, Anker 24W USB Car Charger (Quick Charge 2.0 Compatible) for Galaxy S7/S6/Edge/Plus, Note 4/5, Nexus 6, iPhone, LG G5 V10, Samsung Fast Charge Qi Wireless Charging Pad and More: Electronics Amazon.com: Quick Charge 3.0, Anker 24W USB Car Charger (Quick Charge 2.0 Compatible) for Galaxy S7/S6/Edge/Plus, Note 4/5, Nexus 6, iPhone, LG G5 V10, Samsung Fast Charge Qi Wireless Charging Pad and More: Electronics
You need to use this type of plug to get at least 2 amps to go to the Qi charger.
All together it was about $30.00

It works and fits perfectly for my Samsung S7 - phone stays put and no sunglasses blowing up :-)

^^^ the magnetic charging system is very cool. It doubles as a mount and charger.

I only wish it could fast charge. Can these Ebay magnetic qi chargers be dismantled and we can put our own charging coils in there?

I have the following:
Magnetic Fast Charge Mount Magnetic Fast Charge Mount

I can confirm that it fast charges and also fits the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus with a plastic case. I'd guess it'll do the same for the iPhone. If you need photos, I'll be glad to post some. I've got it mounted left of the clock attached to the A/C vent. You'll need a micro usb cable and
cigarette lighter adapter cigarette lighter adapter
which support fast charging. You can buy a flat micro usb cable and run the cable neatly under the panels for a cleaner look.

Default Aftermarket Qi car charger

we just ordered a 2018 RX and I noticed that here in the states, we don’t have the option of the wireless phone charger. I know there’s the perfect cubby in front of the shifter to place a flat charger with a plug in next to it to keep wires at a minimum. What are you guys using to charger your phones?

Default Add Wireless Charging to your RX for $50!!!!

I recently bought an RX350 F Sport, and was very somewhat disappointed that it didn't have wireless charging. Well, i added wireless charging for $50!!!! For those interested, here's a tutorial. Tell me what you guys think....

Bought from ECS Tuning for $50

1. Remove side panels

2. Remove trim around radio and unplug Start Button

3. Remove Joystick by pulling up and unplug it

4. Unscrew Shift **** and remove the two screws

5. Move Shifter to Drive, Pull the whole piece back then lift up

6. Lift whole piece up and unplug the front plugs

7. Swing it to the passenger side and use something to protect your seat

8. Unclip the white clip

9. Pull tray out and unplug the Light and Cigarette Lighter plug (put Shifter in Drive for more room)

10. Shave down those fins under the tray so charger can sit flush

11. Tape the Charger to the tray

12. Connect the T-Tap to the Cigarette Lighter Plug(white blue = 12V+, white brown = 12V-)

13. Connect charger, put everything back together and you are done!!!

As you can below that my iPhone X is sitting in the tray and charging.....

Nice write up, question, this doesn't list charging spec, so i would guess its slow charging and not fast like many phones are able to charge at.
second, was it relatively easy to disassemble the vehicle, any issues or problems you ran into during the process ??
(need to pull the deck for a add on install, beatsonic with screen mirroring )

thanks again, looks great!!

I dont know the specs but it seems to charge normal. Everything was pretty straight forward and you do not need to pull the deck out.
