Yep, posted earlier.

If it had the capability to change the tune on the fly, it would be stated as such. It would be a marketing tool. 87 octane is what is recommended. There, I just said it!

Not so, that is the default tuning, but thanks to the computer which can compensate for the lack of energy it allows you to use a lower energy (octanes)

If it still knocks then you may have other problems (Plugs, carbon etc)

I agree it's very clear. If you want concrete results, dyno-test your SUV with using both 87 and 91 octane gas. You make look silly dyno-testing a RX though.

True as well. Your car's computer will limit performance, but no harm to engine. The potential for engine knock is from using lower octane gas with aftermarket turbo chargers. Cars with OEM turbo engines like the IS200t will have the computer limit performance as well, but I would never put in 87 since the owner manual recommends 91 or higher

Vehicles that retard timing due to reduced octane, have higher octane requirements. If you're driving a current gen RX350, you do not have that concern. As the manual states, feel free to put higher octane in your tank. It will not cause any damage.

wowza its like $0.70 here in MD..

but as pointed out by many in this thread.. i just follow the OEM recommendations..
We don't have 93, its 87, 89 and 91. The spread between 87 and 91 is 20-40 cents, depending on a place.

So far I saw only 94 at Shell stations here.

Ok.
Here is what I got from Lexus Canada.
Loud and clear

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

Please be advised that your Owner's Manual states the minimum fuel requirement for your 2017 RX 350 is Unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 87 or higher. For improved performance, the use of gasoline with an Octane rating of 91 or higher is suggested.

Please be advised that all tests and vehicle specifications for our Lexus vehicles are done using 91 Octane fuel.

Thank you once again for taking the time to contact us. We hope this information has been helpful.

So you won't get the advertised 295hp and 268lb-ft unless you fill up with 91 octane.

Everyone who said the manual was clear and it recommends 87, you were interpreting incorrectly. A clear manual, one should not interpret.
In fact your RX350 is designed to use 91 octane premium fuel and retards the ignition timing to prevent knocking when you fill up with regular (87).

What I've been saying all along. If anything what's been written on the manual is a WARNING not to go below 87 octane and NOT a recommendation.

Fake news! If it was true, advertising regulations require it to be shown in plain text.

There's a reason these threads keep getting closed. It's almost political. At the end of the day, you can't go wrong with any fuel with an octane rating >86. All owners are free to spend their hard earned money as they see fit. Even if you did gain 10HP running premium, remember, you're still driving a slow SUV.

And the thread is in danger of being closed again. Any time this topic came up in the 3RX forum, the phrase 'beating a dead horse' was often said.

Agree to disagree and move on.

In Australia the manual is clear, use RON 95 (90 AKI for US) or you can temporarily use RON 91 (87 AKI for US). The filler flap also has a red sticker saying Premium Unleaded Fuel Recommended.

Yes,It’s a marketing gimmick somehow they get away in North america.
Make us believe that it’s a better buy compare to European luxury SUVs that require Premium.
At least Honda “used” to state the difference. Not sure if they do anymore.

Because obviously there is a performance increase ... and in the European and Australian markets only premium is recommended . It’s interesting that the only country in the world that says they have problems with hesitation and harsh running is the USA, where many people seem to insist on using standard grade fuel . The problem doesn’t exist in any other market when premium fuel is the only one used .....
