Fram said theirs goes in down. Black charcoal side on bottom. Arrow down, writing on side faces up then, while arrow is down. They sent me a link to a Lexus specific video. Also a link to some written stuff (photo attached)

Driver School Candidate
For oem, its best to use 87139 0E040 however it's in backorder a lot at my local dealership. Toyota dealer tried to sell me the lighter charcoal version as well as the non charcoal filters, they don't work as well.
After market I could only suggest fram CF12157, also works well had both charcoal and baking soda in it. The direction is confusing tho, it illustrates air flow direction as opposed to OEM's up arrow sign. I think the the placement is the opposite as oem, if I remembered it correctly, the blower housing is on top, so the air flow is going down.
