They all lit up the dash a couple days ago, voice came on and said pull over. Tow truck driver said second one in 2 days that he has towed for exact same reason. We noticed it surged a little on acceleration the day before but that was about it. Lexus repair said it is a "gas tank issue" but they dont have the part and cant find the part anywhere and dont know if it will be a week or a month before they get the part(s) in? 5,400 miles on the car. hmmm?

no news from dealer as of yet, thinking about taking a long trip with the loaner though?

Lexus Master Tech here,

Some of the RX450h's have a problem with the fuel level sensor float getting hung up on a baffle inside of the gas tank. You simply ran out of gas, but the car didn't know that, so that's why it went bonkers. Lexus wants the entire gas tank assembly back in order to inspect what went wrong. You will be getting a brand new gas tank, but it takes a while to get as the part has to come from Japan.

I know that many of the issues are due to the RX350 being made in the US for the first time, and the factory, is still making tweeks. However, this issue is happening with the RX450h models as well, which is made exclusively in Japan. This is probably an engineering oversight, as the vehicle was rushed to market.

I always tell people to stay away from new model release years, as there are usually several issues that need to be addressed.

the RX350 is being made in Canada, not USA, some from japan.
the RX450h is being made in Canada also, not Japan.

sounds about right as far as what happened, thank you notadood. Lexus said new tank arrived yesterday so probably get the new one installed today.
