I had a rock chip repaired on my windshield this weekend. I told the mobile glass repair guy that i had tint on the inside of my windshield.

He said its a good thing I told him because he was going to use a lighter to heat up the glass prior to using the Epoxy....

UV protected for sure

I believe the front is NOT tinted, just UV protected. The rears are around 20, 25%.

3m Crystalline= High quality, lifetime warranty against bubbles with an authorized installer, CLEAR film that doesn't block visibility but blocks heat and UV. (expensive)
3m color stable= High quality, lifetime warranty, different color grades that look charcoal and dark grey, better for privacy to keep eyes out of your car, same protection.

There are so many out there, ceramic, etc. Use yelp, find a dealer near you and see what they have, then google what they have to make sure it's a lifetime warranty, and they have been around for a while

if you are in NY, there is a new law effective from Jan 1, 2017.... So don't go too crazy with the tints.

Many Thanks aznkorboi,
The brand V-Kool is very popular here. The top of the product vkool available here is at $ 777, whereas 3M costs $ 622 for all 4 sides. If I ask you which one would you recommend when concentrating on quality and long life. both products with only 5 years warranty.

Do not think tinting the side glass will cause a problem, it may if you do the rear hatch window. The rear view mirror uses a light sensor and cutting the light down with tint might have some effect but then you would also have a dark tinted window limit the light anyway.

I have 70% ceramic on the the rear glass and there is no impact to the dimmer. The dimmer is controlled by a sensor on the front of the rear view mirror.

Doing a quick google search, v kool vs 3m

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1370581

It seems that vkool is better but they said the older ones interfere with the gps so make sure you get one that doesnt

3M Crystalline darkest shade is only 40%.

If you want darker than 40%, you need to look elsewhere..

I did 50% front windows 5% over the factory tint on the rear side windows and 20% on the rear hatch and sunroof glass. No issues with the auto dimming mirrors. Here is a pic of my 16 I just traded in. I did the same percentages on my new 17.
