Hey, gang. First time poster. I had a leaking CV boot that got replaced by my mechanic. Shortly thereafter, I noticed a worsening shimmy that I returned to the mechanic. He says it needs a new driveshaft ($1800!!!) because there was damage from the bad CV joint?

I feel like he’s been a good mechanic on my other vehicles, but I am questioning the validity of this since there was no shimmy before the cv axle replacement. Anyone else have this issue?

 

Axle from Lexus is $1200 aftermarket less than $100. And what is your mechanic talking about didn't he just replace the axle?

 

They no longer fix a cv boot, they replace the front or left axle. The driveshaft connects the 2?

 

Not clear to me....did he replace the CV boot or the CV joint?
