Did anyone tried to install new RTI on 2018 lexus RX(with 8 inch display)which has turning **** control button instead

 

I have not, but I do plan on it. Will need to purchase one from a salvaged vehicle.

Hard to say without looking at the schematics. I don't have access to TSB right now so don't really have time to tinker with it.

 

I doubt very much that the head end software is the same.

 

I also doubt the software is the same. On a joystick, you look for the pressing of 8 switches to move the cursor. So the cursor moves incrementally in one of these directions. On a touch pad there’s a bunch of column and rows that are being constantly scanned to determine position, The cursor can jump from one position in the screen to another, as well as, slide along the dragging of a finger in a touch pad. Thus, both systems have very different control software.

 

Can you replace one pointer mechanism with another?
I have the 2017 "jog", and it is terrible. I tested the "touch system" on the 2021, and while not awesome, it is a lot better - so can one replace the other?
