Cayenne vs RX maintenance costs
I am waiting for my new RX to be delivered this March (2020), so I am still driving my 2014 Cayenne. It has been reliable, but maintenance is very costly. I had a check engine light and took it to the dealer and they charged me $2000 to replace 2 oxygen sensors. I am used to that on the Porsche, but how does the RX compare? I am REALLY hoping it will be half as costly to maintain, as I hope to retire with the RX some day...
There is a reason you still see very old RX still on the roads...reliability and cost effective maintenance. Now things can go wrong just with any car but as long as you take care of a Lexus it will last you a while.
I understand that a "Toyota" Dealer can do maintenance service on your Lexus Rx and still maintain the Lexus warranty. Of course, after warranty you can go to whichever mechanic you choose and not be concerned about the warranty.
Ranking came out about a year listing manufacturers on maintenance cost. Lexus was the third least expensive behind it's cousins Toyota and Scion. Lexus was by far the least expensive in the luxury car class.
This has worked for me for our cars for well over a million miles. Never had the first problem. I pay less than $348 each for our ES 300h and RX 450h for every 30,000 miles. I never go in an ask for a 10,000 miles or 30,000 mile service. They charge ridiculous amounts for a lot of inspection of things that do not need to be inspected. Every 10,000 miles the oil needs to be changed. I take my 5 quart jug bought at Walmart for $23 less the Mobil $12 rebate runs twice a year in the spring and fall. I buy the Toyota oil filters on line for $5 each. They charge me $30 labor. Total oil change $46. Every 30,000 miles the brake fluid needs to be changed at a cost of $120. At 30,000 miles the cabin and air filter need to be replaced. I do mine at 20,000 miles and cost $45 for both and take 5 minutes to change. Every 20,000 miles I replace the wiper inserts at $15 and again five minutes to change.

Well, I have a Porsche Macan GTS and Lexus RX. I think you will be presently surprised. I would expect less then half the cost.
In Canada:
6 month oil change Lexus = $100
Annual Oil Change Porsche = $600
Brake Flush Lexus = $150
Brake Flush Porsche = $250
Spark Plugs Lexus = really crazy long interval (I want to say 90,000 miles)
Spark Plugs Porsche = $800 / 4 year
3 Year Fluid Flush Porsche is $1500 vs a few hundred.
You get the idea. Look through the maintenance intervals on the Lexus and it is very reasonable. The price too in my experience. And anyone can work on and reset the maintenance minder in their garage on the Lexus, Porsche requires a custom computer.
