Default 8" or 12" display?

Looking for a 2016-2018 rx350. I see them with 8" and 12" displays. In the pictures, the 12" is wider but it seems to be not as tall. Maybe not? Wonder pros and cons. Also, how good is built in Lexus navigation? Do I have to pay a fee or is it just available in the car with no monthly or yearly fee. I have a Garmin unit that I am very happy with. Lifetime maps and traffic for less than $200. I love my Garmin lady. Unfortunately, it sticks to the windshield and I have to run a wire to the outlet. Unsightly.

From what I recall, it’s the same height. 8” is inside the same external enclosure but not fully utilizing the entire width. Go with the 12” if you’re able to have that option.

Found this on Google, don't know which models and years it applies to:
Navigation updates are released on a yearly basis, however the purchase of a navigation update is optional. Updates provide new map and POI (points of interest) information you may find helpful.

Navigation updates are only available for purchase at a Lexus dealership.

The MSRP for the Version 17.1 update (excluding the SD card based version for GEN8 and GEN9 vehicles) is $169.*

The MSRP for Version 17.1 SD card based updates for GEN8 and GEN9 vehicles is $210.*
