Unfortunately, the metal covers won't work. Different cover gaskets, as well as a new plastic PCV valve for one - why Toyota?
You would use the corresponding gasket and PCV valve for the metal covers - the question is, do the mounting holes match on cover-to-engine and other components like the ignition coils and spark plug tubes.
TechPro OS-011-1, my fellow co-workers mostly used the OS-011-2 but I like the 11-1 as it is slightly more of a loose fit so less likely to get stuck on a tight/dirty filter housing. These things are HEAVY DUTY and are a quality piece - designed for pro use and will take an absolute beating. If it's good enough for a Toyota dealership, it's good enough for DIY. Got it from a tool supplier that supplied to the dealership.
Yep, not sure if it is available in the USA but it makes me wonder if there is an equivalent out there made by another brand. These are great for getting over-torqued filters off, which shouldn't be an issue with a DIYer like us, but it's a good re-assurance.
This "Tool Guy" brand one looks pretty decent too. Not available over here but would be way better than the cheap aluminum / pot metal ones they sell at auto stores. If it's actually quality chrome vanadium that would be awesome. There's also the Toyota OEM (# 09228-06501) which is solid too although hard to find now. There's a nice US-made one on eBay too which is aluminum but it's real nice 6061 series aluminum and looks proper as well.
nice write up... ? are the 2022 RX350 the same as this 2016 as far as the under neath I like the idea not having to remove shields to access the drain plug and filter..

Super late reply as I never saw this until now, but the FKS has very different heads and the construction of everything up top won't line up anymore. Here's a cool video of a breakdown of the engine by Marc from Frankenstein Motorworks:

Interesting. It's twice the cost of the Toyota filter I buy from the local Lexus parts desk. It seems very high end, so if it's free/bundled, there's likely no harm in using it. I wouldn't pay a premium for it over the Toyota filter, though. One last thought; it claims a 20K mile duty cycle. I think there is such a thing as a filter being too, good, in that it might cause oil pressure to activate the bypass valve in the filter housing. There's no way I'd use a filter like that more than 5K-10K miles.
I use the same Ultra Platinum oil (we probably both watched the Project Farm vids... ), but never find it in stock in auto parts stores. Amazon and Walmart.com are the only places I've found it.
