I seriously doubt it, it's obvious that someone/something scratched it!

The new 2020 supra the same issue: https://www.supramkv.com/threads/cra...a-emblem.2393/

The thing is my 50k warranty expired but I bought the platinum vsa for up to 100k. Just afraid of my local Lexus dealer charging me $135 for a diagnostic fee after telling me "lol no".
Why would someone sell a defective one on ebay?

As a builder of plastic car model kits, I can attest to the fact that getting chrome plating to adhere to plastic must be some sort of art form, as lots of chrome plated plastic looks poor. Plating plastic is a totally different process than plating metal: the base plastic is painted with a clear coat of paint that the chrome will stick too. Then the chroming process, which must be a cold process, as heat might melt/deform the plastic. When completed, the chrome on the plastic is VERY thin, and will disappear if soaked in bleach for a few seconds.

Now, it's quite possible that car manufacturers may use a different plating process, as automotive pieces are left in the weather, and subject to being abraded when washed. I could easily believe that an auto emblem's chrome may be thicker or treated in some manner to deal with the elements they will be subjected to. That said, all chrome plated stuff--including metal--will flake if subjected to stresses like bending. Personally, I would consider these damaged logos to be a warranty item, but--of course--your Lexus dealer may not concur.

Default Cracked rear emblem 2017 RX 350

I had this problem that appeared around 20,000 miles. Car is garaged, no solvents used on it, no abrasives either. this is a manufactueing defect not caused by the owner. my guess is a failed stabilizer used in the plastic to resist UV light. my dealer in Knoxville, tn replaced it as a customer satisfaction service at no cost. had they not, i would have taken it up with lexus. no way a $60,000 car has this basic a problem.

Default Cracked emblem

I had my rear emblem replaced on my 2019 RX 350 after it started showing fine lines like scratches within a few thousand miles. The replacement is now showing the same issues.

Are you going through car washers with brushes?

Mine looks like that. It also doesn't function each time I do the hand gesture thing to open it. Just beeps and sounds like the door unlocks but the door doesn't open.

Lexus dealership car wash or by hand. You can not feel scratches. The lines appear to be inside the emblem.

Default Cracked emblem - ANYONE ELSE ????

Same problem on my RX350 2016, had to fight to get it replaced under warranty.

I met an otherRX350 2019 Lexus driver while in the garage and guess what!!!! his emblem was severely cracked and the garage was telling him it was hit by an object!!!!(bull)
They were telling me the same thing even though there is absolutely no visible impact trace on the emblem and I know it was never hit.
Anyway we got together to fight our case and finally got Lexus to agree to replace both emblems under warranty.

ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE WITH REAR TRUNK CRACKED EMBLEM?????

That's evidence that it is a design flaw. They should plan on replacing every emblem every 2 or 3 years.

What type of climates do you guys, with cracked emblems live in?

It looks like it is a design flaw, in which case if you are under the bumper to bumper warranty, the manufacturer will replace it.

South Texas in winter and Canada during summer.
My car is in the garage most of the time so climate shouldn’t be a factor.

Had to fight hard with Lexus service to get it replace under warranty. It shouldn’t be like that.
