Brake pad replacement
 

Has anyone replaced the rear pads on their 2016 rx with auto parking...The piston does not push in to get the new pads in.I think it rotates in, but the face of the piston is flat.There doesen't seem to be a slot to insert the rotating tool to push the piston back in..Has anyone done this job?

I believe that the 16 RX has an electric 'E' brake and will require a scanner to retract the pistons.

does anyone else know more about the e-brake system?

Shouldn't you turn off the auto parking brake before changing the pads?

Question how many miles did you get out of your pads, reason I ask is I am at 15k and I am getting concerned they are wearing rather quick.
I am hoping I can get a least 40K out of all the pads. I had ES prior which it was able to do without issue to about 40K, however my 13 GS was down to metal at almost 50k both were leases so that's why I didn't care about destroying rotors but got say the brake pads on ES really held up and I had 2010 back in the day that I returned with 60K on original pads.

They are half way at 10000 mi...

Wow very surprised at 10k and that it would be rear over the front pads, maybe it the extra weight.
This is the first Lexus I am really looking forward to turning back in.

fronts were half way also.they were replaced.no one seams to know much more about this.. I cant seam to find anything on the internet either..

If you are having brake pads issues at 10-15K there is something wrong with the brakes or you drive very hard. Toyota/Lexus brake pads should easily last 50K miles. Three Lexus and numerous Toyota's have all had over 50K and not needed brake pads. I don't know how long they last as I have never had one with more than 60K miles.

Been following this thread for when the day comes to replace the pads on the RX (shouldn't be for some time). Found this document on the NX electronic parking brake release the RX might be the same.

It is...Also you can buy a scan tool with this feature on it and you can retract the brake..

dont you mean spanner not scanner?

he meant scanner (as in an electronic tool) - i think some other car companies - since the parking brake is electronic and not the conventional cable system - a scanner tool is needed to release the actuator so the piston can be retracted (<-- this is my understanding of some newer german cars.)

Has anybody figured out a way to replace rear pads without a scan tool? I know some cars can be done by entering diagnostic mode on car dash display.
