SO I tried that yesterday. It was very difficult to get the inner part of the roof rail with the plasti dip spray and today when I was washing my car, the whole thing just peeled right off haha.
I think I'm going to try one more time tomorrow and make sure I get full coverage on both sides somehow. I tried to pry off the roof rails and man it wouldn't budge. So I didn't want to break anything
I suspect they are joined from under the roof. I could be wrong but when I parted out all the parts for someone that wanted to install one ( theirs didn't come with the roof rails) there was a set of nuts required and I was told the headliner had to be removed for installation. I'll try to find that thread and give you an idea of what's there...
Here is what makes up the roof rails...gives you an idea, and as stated above there are some nuts and was told the headliner needs to be removed, so I suspect they are under it.
Here is the info....
Side rails...
Left 63470-0E180
Right 63460-0E180
Cushions
Right front 63486-0E080
Left Front 63487-0E070
Right rear 63488-0E080
Left rear 63489-0E070
Then you need 6 seals 63437-0E0760
And 6 nuts 90178-08003
Just wondering, would a wrap work better since the paint peeled off?
I personally would NOT attempt to remove the roof Rails. They are bolted through the roof with a nut inside the cabin under the headliner. The roof rail seals the mounting holes. If you break that seal, you might have a leak. If you insisted on getting some water inside the car then you have to remove the headliner so that you can get to the nuts to unscrew the rails....
I did not attempt removing the roof rails. It seemed really bolted on. But on the older Lexus versions it's as easy as a little elbow grease and force to remove the clips as it is two pieces.
I recently bought a 2016 RX350 and there appears to be pine needles and leaf debris sticking out from the edges of the roof rail trim... Does anyone know if these covers (silver) can be removed? I would like to take them off and clean under them.
I think You have to remove most of your interior panels and the headliner to remove the roof rail from inside the car.. Then you might end up with leaks inside the car.
yup i took mine right off! i got a 2017 Fsport! its pretty easy just remove the plastic covering and access the screws and then it make the grips looser and then just wiggle them off
Hello, I’m new to the group but definitely not new to the Lexus brand. I have owned 3 different GS models, RX350 and now an 2019 RX350L, premium package. I have always upgraded various accessories to my taste. I am in the process of creating my own black line edition. So far I have painted the front grill gloss black, install gloss black mirror caps, gloss black door handle covers, black running boards (aftermarket), 22 inch chrome aluminum lip with black/aluminum face.
I am looking for assistance on removing the roof rail to paint them gloss black. I have also ordered a gloss black trunk spoiler to complete my black line. Anyone know how to remove the rails? Hopefully, this does not involve removing the headliner. Black Grill 22 inch XIX23, 265 40 22 Nitto NT420V Running Boards Black mirrors and door handle covers

Where did you get those black door handle covers? They look awesome.

You'll most likely have to remove the headliner, all headliner lights, sun visors, A pillar, B Pillar, c pillars, trunk side panels to get to the screws that hold the roof rail in place
