On a 2018 if I put the Cabin Filter in arrow up, the writing on it is upside down The video says arrow down, on filter that was in there it was arrow up. Both sides look exactly the same.
So is it arrow up or down? Thanks Dorothy

 

The arrow is up. The writing on the filter does not matter if its up or down. All arrows up and your good.

 

Fram said theirs goes in down. Black charcoal side on bottom. Arrow down, writing on side faces up then, while arrow is down. They sent me a link to a Lexus specific video. Also a link to some written stuff (photo attached)


I did what they said, hopefully it’s correct.

 

I only use oem lexus, toyota ones so you may be right with the aftermarket ones.

How often is everyone changing their engine air filters on the RX 350?

I am about to put my second one at 31000 miles, so about 15-16k miles per change.

Should I be changing more often and also wondering if I should take out the filters every 5k miles and dust it out?

 

I change my air and cabin filter right after pollen season which was this week. At six months, I take both out and blow them opposite of flow with a blower. Probably early but both cost $40 and take less then five minutes to change both. As far as the cabin air filter if OEM arrow up if aftermarket arrow down for air flow direction.

 

It depends on whether or not you drive under "special operating conditions". Please consult the "Warranty and Services Guide" for detailed information pertaining to your specific model and driving environment. My manual has it on page 48 (2017 RX 350 Base).

 

Cabin 2x per year although sometimes I just clean it on the second time. Engine air filter every 25k miles and it's still not that dirty.

 

I just changed both recently, the cabin air filter wasn’t the carbon one the last time I changed so I put the carbon one in this time. I also found the afe power drop in dry filter and put it in, The factory one engine filter was pretty dirty. And the afe filter really works well. I averaged nearly mid 29 miles to the gallon coming from central Cali down through Orange County, on the 101 and 405. And the car has 88+ thousand miles on it.

 

Deciding if I should replace engine air filter with regular paper media (like a FRAM for about $20 or OEM for about $30-35) or consider a performance filter dry-air reusable ones from AFE ($80) or AEM ($65).

This is for our 2018 RX 350 primarily city driving (streets + highways) with no overly dusty roads, and we put about 8k miles per year.

Leaning towards the regular paper filter but if the AFE or AEM help with engine health (better air flow, less hesitation), might consider those performance ones.
Also not overtly looking for MPG changes but would be curious if it helps or hurts with mileage?
